The best way to choose your personal Magenta Poncho is – of course – to try several ponchos here at the Heart of AN at the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Peru. As soon as you are embraced by the right poncho for you, you are feeling it, and no other considerations matter!
Maybe you even feel the energy through our photos at this online AN•Mercado. When it feels the right energy for you – congratulations, you found your Magenta Poncho!
Maybe you want to be a bit more practical – then you can look for ponchos in the right size.

The Wrist Span
The main determining measure is your “wrist span” – the distance from the left wrist to the right wrist while standing with outstretched arms. A poncho with the same width will not cover your hands and will not reveal your lower arms.
If you want to cover your hands on purpose, or if you want the poncho “shorter” in the sense to show more of your arms, then you look for wider or less wide ponchos.
According to this the poncho in the photo is a bit to short for Emanáku.
How to measure your Wrist Span
Find a wall or use the floor. Make a small marking with pencil or a piece of tape. Stand at the wall or lay on the floor with one arm outstretched, so that your wrist touches the mark. Stretch the other arm to the other side of your body along the wall or floor. Without moving your body, take the hand from the marking and reach over to the other outstretched arm. Find the place of your wrist on that arm and make a second mark.
Measure the distance from mark to mark: this is your “wrist span” in centimeters or inches:

The following list leads to pages with ponchos of approximately your wrist span (all links open in a new tab):
120 – 130 cm (47 – 51 in) – also some horizontal wearable Ponchos
130 – 140 cm (51 – 55 in) – also some horizontal wearable Ponchos
140 – 150 cm (55 – 59 in) – also some horizontal wearable Ponchos
150 – 160 cm (59 – 63 in) – also some horizontal wearable Ponchos
160 – 170 cm (63 – 67 in) – also some horizontal wearable Ponchos
170+ cm (67+ in) – as well as horizontal
How we measure Ponchos
The length of all ponchos is measured along the stripes and the hole for the head (“vertically”). This is the total length half of which covers the front of your body, and the other half the back.
Some ponchos look good when worn with the stripes horizontally just by turning them after putting your head through the hole. While this is possible with every poncho, we have marked ponchos especially well suited for horizontal wear.
What about the length of the Poncho?
When you measure the distance from your hip line to your neck and double this (for front plus back), then your poncho should have a length of at least this number.
Is the poncho shorter, then it will reveal more of your tummy.
Is it longer then this can keep you cozy warm and give you more of the feeling wearing a coat.
Back and Front of a Poncho
Some ponchos have a “back and a front”. You see this, when you fold the poncho lengthwise and inspect the hole for the head.
-
- If the two ends of the hole match exactly, then your poncho’s front and back are symmetrical and it does not matter, which side is in front and which in the back.
- If the two ends of the hole have a distance (usually 2 to 5 cm or 1 to 2 in) then poncho looks better, when the longer part of the poncho is worn in the back.
